Wales: The Gower

For someone with a little less of a budget or someone who wishes to check out the welsh coast from warmer destinations around the world. The Gower is somewhat of a haven to all. Immense surfing with coves upon coves which were previous used for smugglers many moons ago which have secluded spots within each of them.
Places to stay are pretty much limited to camping or the B&B’s, but to get a real feel camping is the ideal way. The top campsite which we found is Hillend Campsite, based just behind the dunes and about 2 minutes walk from the surf and a beach which stretches for miles. Llangennith is placed between rolling hills, making the ideal walking environment with beautiful sunsets looking over the coast. Hillend as I said is beautiful in a perfect location and has all the amenities on the site; fancy hot showers, tidy loo’s, electric hook-ups and a shop on site (Tip: Shop off site to enable you to bring a large stash of BBQ food and beerios so you don’t break the budget).
The site consists of three fields the second is for general campers, families and others. The third field is family only, and the first is the busiest but in most ideal location for loo’s ect. If you are a van fan, then this field is the one for you, we met an awesome crowd of Vdubs down there and will always return with ours to field one, as it seems to be the place to be and has a reel family feel having barbies and all.
After your barbie head down to the beach for a sunset surf or hang out with peeps around a fire with a few marshmallows.
Swansea isn’t too far away, which is a university town with the closest university to the beach in the world! Swansea is awesome for all, cafes, bars ect and loads of places to eat.
If larger towns aren’t for you head along the north coast of the Gower and you will find all the little local towns with your little local pubs.
Weather wise.... It’s Wales. With Wales seems to come rain but if you catch the right week then you could be anywhere.
The wildlife is awesome too, shared the back line with seals a few times also turtles, whale sharks have been spotted.

Nothing beats it for me in the UK, that’s why we are moving there in 2 months.

Have fun and let me know what you think J

Fuerteventura : Correlajo

Fuerteventura is awesome probably one of the best islands I have ever visited. Surf for all standards and lots of it. The accommodation is brilliant and cheap, defiantly the best thing to do is self catering, and there are plenty of supermarkets available to buy all the bits and booze. There are a number of shops around but the best and cheapest is the locals local. At the back of town on the west side not far from the mountain which can be spotted from anywhere.
The weather is awesome lovely and warm all year round, personally I tend to head over November and February. When the surf picks up and the tourists are sat at home freezing! The wind does pose a problem to some visitors but you will quickly adjust and it will become a pleasant breeze to ease the warmth. The locals have accommodated for the wind and being on the beach, they have created little wind havens were rocks have been stacked in circular shapes on the dunes to create a wind barrier which is amazing and also some privacy.
The town of Corralejo is awesome! Has such a wide diversity of foods, shopping, bars and the clubs. The music is something which Corralejo seems to focus on, every night each bar has its own artists playing and most are extremely talented. Tip: Check out the back bars near quicksilver surf school, awesome little bar and great atmosphere normally a car park on the high street with an arrow on it. The bars are endless, the clubs aren’t huge it’s not an 18-30's holiday. It is somewhere to chill with friends and soak up the atmosphere.
Surf wise it can be a travel, by that a 15min drive depending on your ideal desto. Most surf schools out there are awesome. I had a great time with the quicksilver lads and a couple of safari groups we hoped on to travel about. They sort you out with the travel and the spot and normally a good bit of company for a few beerios in the evening. A hire car can also be an option if you have a bit extra cash.
If a higher car is available I would recommend heading south. Some awesome beaches ripped straight out of a magazine. Here you lose your waves but paradise arrives. Heaven for windsurfers and kite surfers as the water is about 4ft deep and glassy!

Overall Fuerteventura is one of the most southerly points of Spain and you are in line with Africa and the Moroccan coast. So the weather is outstanding and the surf goes with it!

Have fun and let me know what you thought. J
